A Fruitful CS Mainland Study Tour · Day 1

On January 7, our Secondary Five students participated in the Citizenship and Social Development (CS) Mainland Study Tour, embarking on a journey to Zhongshan and Zhuhai. The trip focused on the preservation and transmission of intangible cultural heritage, while also exploring opportunities for higher education and personal development in Mainland China.

The first stop was the Hakka Village Tulou Cluster in Wuguishan, Zhongshan. Through guided tours and visits to this uniquely Hakka-style rural village, students gained insights into the architectural craftsmanship and style of Hakka tulou, as well as the charm and essence of this national-level intangible cultural heritage. In the afternoon, the group visited the Zhongshan Museum and strolled along the Sun Wen Road Arcade Street, delving into the cultural and economic development of Zhongshan.

After a full day of activities, the students and teachers returned to the hotel to engage in group discussions about their observations and experiences, preparing themselves for the second day’s itinerary.

A Rewarding CS Mainland Study Tour · Day 2

On January 8, the study tour continued its journey in Zhuhai, further exploring Lingnan culture and opportunities for higher education and personal development in Mainland China.

In the morning, the group visited the Huitong Ancient Village in Zhuhai. This village, characterized by typical Lingnan architectural styles, showcases the development of Lingnan history and culture, as well as the achievements in the preservation of traditional heritage. The students also experienced the significance of cultural preservation and its value in cultural transmission.

After lunch, the group visited the Zhuhai campus of Beijing Normal University. Through lectures and guided tours, the students had the opportunity to observe the learning environment of a Mainland university up close and gained a deeper understanding of Mainland education policies and admission pathways. This allowed them to explore and expand their future development opportunities.

The students expressed that this study tour provided them with a deeper understanding and appreciation of China’s efforts in preserving intangible cultural heritage and the opportunities for higher education in Mainland China. They also recognized the critical role cultural transmission plays in the process of modernization!
